Last season i took a chunk out of my skeg after hitting ground in shallow water. I had a marine welder repair the skeg, which left a different color metal patch (sanded nicely) on the skeg. I want to paint it now. Question is this: do I need to put primer on the skeg and then paint w/ the vovlo grey, or can I just spray the volvo grey on it w/o primer first. The boat is operated in salt water, but does not sit in the water. It comes out on a lift after every use, except for the occasional overnight stay, and then comes out the next day. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'd prime it first. Volvo part #1141562. Do realize that any touch-up done on a skeg by using a spray can isn't going to last as long as the original paint, but I'm like you - it's worth trying to make it look right.
