Hello all,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but with this being my first oil change in the new boat I want to be sure I get it right.

What is the best oil for a Volvo 5.7 Gs? The boat is a 248 Vista. I checked the online manual but it doesn't have the recommendation listed.

I recently purchased a new oil filter from volvopentastore.com. I bought part number 3850559. Hope this is correct.

I'm partial to amsoil, will go synthetic but I am unsure what weight. 10/30 , 20/40?

The usual recommendation is synthetic straight 30w.

I think there is a section on their website that specifes the oil type, and Mike is correct, they specify a straight 30 synthetic. I have been useing Chevron Delo 400 straight 30 for years in my old '88 4.3 (original engine) and would also use either Shell Rotella 30 or Pennzoil Marine 30 if I couldn't find the Chevron. Marine inboards do better with straight weight oils, they hold their viscosity better under the higher rpm use of marine engines vs auto engines.
