I have always bought the Volvo part and that always comes with a little pack of silicone lube.

The tube that comes with a VP impeller is glycerin.

Yes, Glycerine is what VP supply, it dissolves in water as soon as the engine is run. Very convenient for me we used to have 40 gal drums of the stuff at work, the 250 cm3 botttle I have has lasted for years and years!

Or rather, if you'd used it, you wouldn't... oh, never mind.

Yes,

Just slop a little Dawn (or ANY) dishwashing detergent or even use a bar of soap on it. What ever you use will be gone when you run it in water anyway.

Just make sure that you have the vanes bent in the right direction when you put it together.

Cheers,

Rick

The factory shop manual for my OMC said to use outdrive gear oil to lube the impeller.....so that's what I did....

What's the right direction? Won't they just straigten themselves out. It appears that the housing sits off center from the point at which it spins. See the markings inside my housing:

Edit: Now that I look at it closer it's actually they way the inside of the housing is shaped that probably causes the fins to flex differently.
