Ended up dropping at marina. Would not budge and did not want to damage something else.

I was able to get mine off to about the ends of the bolts, then it stopped. This is on a DP-S drive. I put it all the way back on, then tried to pull off again, and on the second try it came free.

YEah tried that too. Have a feeling the u joints might need replacing and the gimball is stuck. Was able to loosen the bellow and got water coming out telling me it must have had a leak.

Under the circumstances you have made the right move. There is no sense in compounding your problems. I hope they do not ding you too bad.

I know you already took to dealer, but thought I would throw my 2 cents in anyways, been away from thread for a few days.

It does not take much corrosion at all on splines, end of drive shaft going into flywheel to bind things up. Since you got it to move at all, I dont believe that it is frozen in the gimbal bearing.
Once out, and spline is cleaned up and greased, assembly / disassembly should not be a problem in the future. That is if you inspect bellows for cracks and ensure water has not got in there to corrode bearings / u-joints. I bet you inspect bellows like crazy now, you will aways remember that bill you had to pay to get gimbal/bellows repaired.

I still recommend this fall you remove the drive yourself and inspect at end of season before winter layup. I am a firm believer that if the owner works on his boat and understands how it all works, you will be better off in the long run.

You are right. I will inspect yearly. At a a marina that is the Volvo parts dealer not the dealer so 40 an hour cheaper. I am mad I could not get it off and repair myself, but being my first boat and my boat friend is ob experienced I felt it was safer to take it in and not create additional damage.

Bellow had 3 holes. They are replacing the u joints bellows gimball seals. I will pull it myself at the end of boating season from now on.
