Dipstick question of the day: :D
I've always wondered - do you stick the tube down the dipstick tube, or screw the hose onto the fitting at the top of the dipstick?

If at all possible, have it where the oil filter mounts from the bottom.
My biggest problem with the relocation is dumping oil everywhere when you unscrew it.

I have always just threaded the hose attachment to the top of the dipstick.

I always shove mine down the tube as far as it will go, and if it doesn't feel right, wriggle it about a bit

When the oil filter is relocated from the block to the riser on the VP V6/ V8 (become standard since sometime in the early 2000s), access is very much better. It is possible to unscrew it/ remove it without spilling oil from the filter itself; maybe a few drops from the thread on the filter head. I put a plastic bag over the filter in case I drop it when I'm unscrewing it, and a cloth on the riser to catch any drips.

Well as far as using the oil tube down the dipstick VS the screw on fitting I did it both ways and the screw on fitting works better because the diameter of the hose is a lot bigger...
And to change the filter (if not remote) without making a mess...I have loosened it and then put a big sandwich bag around the filter when turning it off the last few turns that keeps from spilling oil...
I would LOVE to have a remote mount but I worry about the fittings leaking and VP had a recall on theirs some years back...plus I'd have to adapt either a Merc or Volvo one as mine is an OMC engine for which they never made a remote mount...
