Recently had the impeller changed. Since the change there is a slight leak in drive oil. No leaking seals, oil res. in engine bay shows leaking of an ounce or 2 per hour of running. Repair guy feels that is being sucked thru the exhaust, but leak not stopped yet. Anyone ever have this issue? 2007 260H, 496 B3.

It would appear to me that this is a fairly serious problem. If the oil is going out there'a good chance that water is getting in. I would have the drive serviced and pressure tested. I think you'll find a seal is leaking by.

I thought the B3 drive had the impeller on the engine, not in the outdrive ? If so, then the impeller change had nothing to do with the outdrive oil leak/ consumption. I vaguely remember oil leaks being mentioned before for the B1 and B3, I can't understand how the drive oil could possibly end up being sucked up by the exhaust. The pressure test mentioned by MNG would seem a sensible next step.

Yes, There is a merc service bulletin out (10-64) Letting us know they now have a new inner prop shaft seal to help with this case by case problem.

While pressure testing don't forget to turn the prop shafts.

Agreed that a B3 impeller change has nothing to do with a gear lube leak. This seems like a coincidence to me.

Is there a link available for service bulletin 10-64? A quick web search did not turn it up.

Sorry Jeff, I don't have a link to send you.

But maybe a mercruiser dealer might be able to print you a copy of the service bulletin, That is if you can get a chance to ask them for one. :)

Good luck. :)
