Anyone have experience replacing the plastic PITOT that reads speed. This bad boy (image) caught a piece of wood and chipped off the bottom part. Can I just unscrew the old one and attach a new one? Any special trick to it?
Thanks!

Yes just remove the screws and the hose and install the new one. Use some sealant (3M 4200-5200)on the screws when reinstalling. Piece of cake.

I would just use 5200

Trying to get Pitot tube off. The screw come out easy, but the base appears to be GLUED on. Is that just the sealant? Should I stick a screwdriver under there and pry it off?

Probably just the sealant. Be careful prying with a screwdriver - you dont want to damage the gelcoat....

Thanks for all the advice.

For anyone looking at this thread in the future I purchased the pitot tube at West Marine (about 12 bucks) and after I removed the screws on the old pitot I used a wide chisel to tap at the corner of the pitot to help remove it. It got under the sealant and plastic very easily, and once under it popped right off without scratching the gel coat. I cleaned the area to pristine condition (the whitest part of the stern now) and placed the new pitot tube on the stern using lots of sealant. Everything looks perfect and I can't wait to get the Sundowner 205 on the water for a test drive.

For the record, I use GPS now when I am underway. And it gives me a much clearer idea of speed, etc. But there's something about having all the gauges work, right?

Mark
