I am thinking water in cylinders as well. Hydrolock might be why it needed 3 batteries to crank. Could have bent a rod in the process.impropper winterization could be culpret

Lol Ric. I'm thinking call a mechanic, go to work and pay him to figure it out.

The second time it started immediately on one battery. It seems lack of lubrication made it a rough first start.

You can not run an engine for years and that won't happen.

You sure you didn't change the oil with water?

I'm not sure that's accurate Ric. I've heard of it before and, no, I did t change my oil and replace it with water.

Letting an engine sit for a few months doesn't harm it or make it tough to turn over. The only way an engine would stick like that is rust from water. Look closer maybe the block is cracked

Not leaking any water and as mentioned, is fresh water cooled so I'm not sure how the block could crack. I'm not a motor head and will certainly pass along suggestions. Thanks.

Update: I had a crack mechanic listen to the motor. When I started it, it sounded fine, then it made the noise and then it went away again. He said, "There is nothing wrong with this motor; a wrist pin is hanging up." He gave me a quart of heavy weight oil conditioner and I ran the motor for 20 minutes. All is good and back to normal. He was so impressed with the boat's overall condition, he wants to buy it. Dodged a bullet on that one!! Thanks for all help.
