From memory with 2 stroke plug chops, the tip of this electrode is looking ok?

Looks lean to me too Daz. Should have some color of a cup of hot chocolate on the white part of the electrode.
(ps. I really like the swim platform. Still looking for one off of a salvage wakeboard boat to modify.)

Going by this, I'm looking rich on the base ring?!

<edit>
Am I wasting my time doing plug readings with the detergent levels in today's hi octane fuels?

You may have a point. I know that Cheveron gas here has some additive they call mmt. It makes the plugs look like they have rust on them. Also, the air fuel ratio will be somewhat different at idle, midrange and wot, because of the different circuits in the carb or the delivery of the injectors at different rpm and load, so a plug reading for each range would be different. IMHO, if it isn't pinging under load, not running hot, and seems to run better with the new adjustments, I'd go with it.

You are right if its running fine leave well enough alone.

If I do a plug reading I use new plugs and run the engine at normal cruise speed then shut off engine without letting it idle long then pull a few plugs from the center cylinders

The plugs have around 10 hours on them and this picture was from a WOT shutdown/ chop.
Timing is at 9 BTDC and never pings anywhere through the RPM or load range.
Throttle response is brilliant now the accelerator pump nozzle size was increased and she never over-heats.
I think I'll leave it as-is, thanks guys!
