If 530 is on the number 1 wire terminal .Adjust the idle screw out till it just hits throttle linkage then 1/2 turn more to start. start with the idle a little high ,set the timing and adjust idle to specs. the advance weights and springs won't be the problem on idle they don't come into the equation till off idle

Copy that, Ill give that a shot tomorrow. Thanks again Crossram. I messed with the idle mixture screws but Ill zero those out again, then play with the idle speed screw. Ill report back tomorrow afternoon-ish.

Thanks again!

Set the mixture screws at about 2 1/4 turns to start

When you adjust the timing "less advanced" and the engine dies, does it:
1. Get super rough (mis firing) then die, or
2. smoothly loose power/rpm then die.

#1 supports a distributor problem
#2 supports a carb/mixture problem

Hey I resemble that remark lol....
Have you tried to turn the engine right to TDC on the compression stroke, and re-install the dist so the rotor's pointing at #1, it seems that this is what needs to be done to get back to a baseline to troubleshoot it. Keep in mind that you must make sure that #1 is on the compression stroke......

It didn't really idle down smoothly or get super rough. It kinda stumbled a little before it died. At first I was hesitant to adjust the idle screw since that is one thing I haven't touched. However, after setting the timing...I don't know how many times, I took the advice to adjust the idle screw. I also bottomed out mix screws and turned out 2.5 turns.

I turned the idle screw about 1/2 turn like Crossram said it raised the idle plenty to drop the timing back to 6* (Im running at least 93 octane). The idle still SOUNDED high so I brought the idle down. I didn't notice but it seems like I turned the idle screw down to where it was originally. She runs great and the idle SOUNDS like it is 550-650. I really have to get a tacho. That begs the question; I don't want to redo the entire gauge cluster so, I can I replace the tach? Surely they don't sell the "knight rider" style gauges anymore?

Gents, thank you so much for the help. I will run the boat like this and, if my dist. turns out to need replacement or work, I will do that but...Ill see how she runs in the water like this.
