That's not the first time sunscreen was used as lube.

Idiots at west marine....

Called them 2x to try and get the right impeller... "Oh yeah - so and so is checking on that - is it ok if he calls you back?"

They never call. Tired of feeling like the fat ugly girl at the bar. I'll take the one I got back there and have a chat with the manager about it.

Find a dealer that sells OE Penta parts, typically WM sells aftermarket except for Merc/Quicksikver

The "OE" VP part is actually a rebranded old Johnson Pump part. I found a seller with "OE" impellers - $25 shipped. They are labeled as "OE" for indmar engines.

I have a local guy (Boathouse Marine) that is pretty good with VP parts. But I have also had good luck with http://www.volvopentastore.com

As a matter of fact, I usually look up my part numbers on www.volvopentastore.com, then buy them from the local guy.

Ah yes, the joys of owning Volvo Penta:

Everything is special order, nothing in stock.

Rick you are so right. My local guy only has the following VP parts in stock: Impellers, most hoses, gaskets, coils, fuel pumps, carb kits, props, some sensors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor caps, rotors, and a few other things. Everything else he can get the next day. Oh, maybe you weren't right!

Here in Orlando out of the 50 Mercruiser dealers there's only two that deal with VP and nothing is ever in stock that's why I moved away from VP to MC when I bought the chap. My next boat will also be MC (and it's going to be really hard to find a mercruiser vista 248).

I'm a believer in supporting local shops/part houses when you can. They can be helpful when you're in a jam. I have not had to take our boat back to the mechanics I use for about 9 seasons but I buy all my tune up parts, impellers, anodes from them each year because it keeps the relationship going. Not easy to find techs who really know OMCs...

I use this site http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/ Excellent site with just about every VP part in stock. Super helpful on the phone too. I order all my impellers from there.

Impeller in, lubed, connections made, double checked all hose clamps, top off the gas with a gallon of fresh and some stabilizer/conditioner, hooked it up to the muffs and it started on the second try. Ran better than it did when I bought it. Turned everything off, checked again for oil/h20 leaks, found nothing, washed it down, checked bilge pump activation, drained everything out of bilge and parked her back in the garage. Ready to hit the water next week.
