Funny that this got brought back to the top! I was going to post here agian this morning anyways!

This weekend, I made some observations while on my boat,

I definitely have F6's on my boat. My maximum achievable rpm is 4200 according to the VDO tach.
Test runs with 3/4 tank of fuel
me alone - just under 50 mph
me and a three hundred pound buddy and 75 lb dog - 46 mph
me and five guys that probably total 1200 lbs all in the back nobody up front - 40 mph

I have issues with the throttle being very stiff and my trim guage is not working so these could have some impact on the above results.

The boat seems to get on plane fairly quick compared to my H200 that would keep the nose in the air for much longer.

Where do I start now?

It looks like we need a wholesale deal on F5 props!

Is your question posted Marc? If you are the one bidding on this, let me know so I don't raise the price up on you. If they work for you, I'll wait for the next deal to come around.

I'm sure we have all seen this, but I'll post the link for those who have slipped through the cracks. What's funny, my 7.4 GSI is the only one that is asking for the F6 props compared to the F5. If I look at the 2000 specs, it requires the F5 props. Marc's boat is a 2001, but has the GS engine which is not even listed on the FW chart for available engines.

I need to talk to an "old timer" FW mechanic that knows something first hand, not info from the book.

I am not bidding on this item. I have watched many of thse items that sit at unbelievably lowprices until the last hours... I suspect this will sell for around $700.

Jim we are running the same props right now.

This "fact" has bothered me ever since I bought the boat. I guess maybe my boat has a leftover 2000 motor in it?!

I thought we had to go up in numbers to get a higher rpm? ie. F7 If not then I think a set of F4's are in order for me! I was told that a prop change is about 200 rpm per pitch change.

I am happy enough with the performance out of my boat at this time (But have only put maybe three hours total on it since last Fall). As long as the rpm's are accurate on the VDO, I am not working the motor too hard and saving a bit of fuel at the same time. It planes nice and quick, an average of 45 mph semi loaded and that will get me to Sushi's in about an hour.

Drop in pitch = higher RPM's. I'd verify that your tach is reading correctly. It seems a little odd to have to go all the way down to F4 on these boats. It's possible, though.

I wish I knew somebody close-by with a set of F5's I could try. That would take all the guess work out of this. I will have to call the local prop shop and see what he has.
[quote="230 Mike"]Drop in pitch = higher RPM's. quote]

Is there a ball park dropor gain for the duoprops? ie. a 21 pitch to 19 pitch was 200 rpm on my SX

http://www.go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm

This is from Walt and I believe he has posted it many times... But what is the equivalent pitch of the duoprop series? ie F6 = what pitch?

Marc:
You need a F5 but not F4. You would loose too much top end with F4… You would get a great hole shot and rocket acceleration but I feel you would only reach to about 45mph. with F4.
With F5, your RPM would reach to 4600 to 4800 RPM. And should run around 50 MPH.
I thought 7.4 have an enough torque to bring F6 to 4600 RPM but based on you and Dave’s engine F5 might be a better prop for your situation.

I've got a spare F5 set that's never been run, but shipping them there and back would not be cheap or easy :) . Like Sushi, I'd be shocked if you actually needed or would benefit with F4's. There is no easy conversion or rule of thumb to convert DuoProp designations to pitch sizes. I would think the RPM difference between one DP size and the next might be closer to 400 RPM's but I'm speculating.

Just be careful!

What are you running now? F4?

I went to the local prop shop today and they have a set of F5s with some minor knicks that they will refurbish and balance for $1000!!!! (plus 13% tax) I asked if I could rent them for a couple of hours to see if they do the trick for me and they flat out refused! What's up with these guys? Alot of you here have mentioned the same thing.

I guess I will keep asking around until I find somebody I can borrow some from and then will have to search for a pair on ebay or maybe iboats.
