You drill through the skeg and the skeg kit comes with special through bolts that give a flush fit when installed.

Make sure you prime & paint what's left of yours, prior to the install. And, seach around, there are a few different guards available. Notice how thw one in the photo (on the VP drive) has a small horizontal fin at the bottom.

Roger that, prime and paint required! Yep, noticed the fin, it looks great!

Thanks again, Gordon!

They do not make the King Cobra Skeg anymore.

I bought the last one they had at the factor for my 800 that I had.

My skeg are good, but I like to put the stainless on anyways.

If anyone can find any, let me know. please........

I finally looked at your last two pics.
Where did you find those?
How much where they?

I paid $114 for mine. Overton's had them on the shelf for about $108-$110. but it's 30 miles away. The one I got was only about 5 miles from my house so I think I did OK.

I looked again at mine. King Cobras.

I don't think that angle would work well for mine.

I know I spoke with the guy that owns Skeggard and he does not have the tool anymore.

Why on earth one would throw away tooling is beyond me, but that is what they do there.

JV, man that looks really great! You should be pleased!

I came across a couple other brands of skeg protectors but they were black and I'm blanking on the name at the moment. They also had a small hole near the bottom for drainage. I didn't want to drill into mine to do that so I attempted to use some marine sealant to prevent water seepage into the guard. I don't know if it will work but the Skeggard is on there until I tear it off on something because it uses red thread lock on the breakaway bolts.

I got mine at http://www.boatingstore.com/us/WaterWorldMarine/index.php?dealer_account=162002028&csid=ab83df9806408307b37ebd3c9f563b1a&sl=EN&currency=usd maybe they have a leftover King Cobra model or two in stock.

Honestly that is what pretty much any outdrive used in salt water (slipped in salt) will look like after about 5 seasons worth...mine looks about the same but works just fine...mine still does have its full skeg though ;)

Painting aluminum that will be in water...is difficult at best...over at boatered.com some one posted the proper way to paint an aluminum drive and it's very labor intensive....that's why people here prefer outboards....
