2 main types of belt dressing I have come across Graham - one is a silicon based spray, the other is a wax based stick you rub on it. In the old days, people always used either a candle or a piece of soap to 'dress' V-belts to fix squeaking. None of them are really a permanent fix - they just hide the noise for a few days!

I have this very problem on my car at the moment. Ford dealer replaced the idler pully under warranty, and 2 days later the noise was back - will add it to the list for the next service!
