I know you already took to dealer, but thought I would throw my 2 cents in anyways, been away from thread for a few days.
It does not take much corrosion at all on splines, end of drive shaft going into flywheel to bind things up. Since you got it to move at all, I dont believe that it is frozen in the gimbal bearing.
Once out, and spline is cleaned up and greased, assembly / disassembly should not be a problem in the future. That is if you inspect bellows for cracks and ensure water has not got in there to corrode bearings / u-joints. I bet you inspect bellows like crazy now, you will aways remember that bill you had to pay to get gimbal/bellows repaired.
I still recommend this fall you remove the drive yourself and inspect at end of season before winter layup. I am a firm believer that if the owner works on his boat and understands how it all works, you will be better off in the long run.
