Hey, just wondering what others with VP 190hp SX are idling at? I'm at 900 rpm when warm which seems high. I'm assuming that it is also resulting in occassional "run on" (I can't remember the name for the term) after turning key to off position. -Dave |

I've read some other posting on engine run-on since I've experienced it since we started running hard pulling tubes. I switched to a higher octane fuel and idle the engine prior to shut off and the problem seems to have subsided. |

My 4.3GL also idles around 600-650 RPM. I was having run on issue (also called dieseling) with my 180 for the first tank of fuel which was from last fall. At the next fill up I put 89 octane in and that helped a lot. It also helps to idle for a short period before shutting the engine down if you have been running it hard. A 900 RPM idle point sounds a little high though. |

Thanks guys. I backed the idle down to 650 rpm...much better. Quite a simple job. The idle screw is readily accessible, and able to be turned w/ fingertips. I think part of my "dieseling" is also due to the need for some fresh fuel. I'm trying to run it down pretty close to empty, before refueling (due to going from non-ethanol to ethanol fuel). Without causing debate, there seems to be a consensus not to mix too much of the two together. |

Wouldn't you rather run suspect fuel through something like your lawnmower rather than your boat? ![]() |

Your boat should idle at 600 rpm. 900 is too high. |
