Post subject:  Infrared Temperatures Normal or abnormal? Post your findings

I have purchased an IR Temperature gauge, having followed the advise of LouC and many others who suggest using an Infrared Temperature Gun for diagnostics.

While this information may be scattered around other posts, I invite anyone with an IR gun to post any of your temperature findings for any engine parts or accessories. Please include if you considered the temperature to be normal of abnormal (and note the problem and solution if applicable). Running mode could be noted (eg "Idle", On Plane", "WOT", "Trailered down mountain pass", etc) Ambient condition could be noted if they are way out of normal (40deg water, high altitude, etc)

This post could be a repository for such temperature information. Examples could include:

Exhaust Manifold
Exhaust Riser Elbow
Exhaust Rubber parts
Engine Block near spark plugs
Oil Pan
Thermostat Housing
Intake Manifold
Electric Fuel Pump
Outdrive upper gear box
Power Steering pump
Hydraulic PTT pump
Fresh Water pump
Trailer hubs
Trailer brake calipers
Tires

Intake manifold just under the Thermo housing...155-160
Thermo housing top....135
Manifold/risers after warm up at idle...100. After running on plane...135

Trailer hubs (drum brakes)...90....tires....115

These all appear to be normal.
Once after the boat sat on the mooring for 2 weeks not used I knew something was up because the engine was idling at 170 not 160 like it normally does, and the manifolds were much hotter like 160 at idle. There was a blockage in the thermo housing and once that cleared it was back to normal. That's why its such a good tool to keep on board. And you don't want to put your hand on a riser that is at 160*, LOL....or a brake disc that is at almost 300*...

I have found that 100* to your hand feels just warm, not uncomfortable, 130* feels hot but you can keep your hand on it, 150* and above you don't want to keep your hand on it. So if it is uncomfortably hot it is probably at or above 150*
