Post subject:  RPM's and speed questions

I am showing 20 MPH on guage and my RPMs are around 2500. Is this correct? When I am at 3000 RPM, I am near 28 or so. With my model, 4.3 GXI, what is my WOT and what RPM should I never exceed? Currently, I seldom go above 3500 or about 35 MPH.

Thanks,

Your engine has a rev-limiter. Keep it under 4500 and you're fine. That boat will do 50+mph.

Do the speeds I mention and the RPMs match up? It feels like the RPMs are too high for the speed I am going.....compared to the old outdrive.....

Well the gauge on the boat is worthless, use GPS (smartphone app). Generally with that size boat and engine you should be roughly 30mph around 3000rpms. That's correct because when you hit redline (4800-4900) you should be in the 50-52mph area. Four Winns are not built for speed and they give zero concern to it in their design. They want you to be comfortable.
