I guess I should also include that my boat is a 1997 with a 5.7v8.

There have been a lot of favorable reviews on Smart Tabs on many of the forums recently in increasing the boats efficiency by getting on plane faster and also planing at slower speeds.

I think I'd go with smart tabs over a whale tale, dolfin, or other type of outdrive-mounted hydrofoil.

I wouldnt add any un-needed force to an outdrive. Tabs are the way to go.

Yeah, I wouldn't add a whale tail or stingray to my 200, although I did add one to my previous 17' Maxum, and was happy with the result. Had it on for about 5 years as I recall, with no ill effects. I am becoming convinced that the Horizon 200 does need something. I have the sunsport seating and find that the cockpit fills up first. The consequence of this is that unless I relegate someone to the bow, I do not have adequate bow down control while on a plane. Put some weight up front, and all's good. I'm considering the smart tabs as a solution.
