My well intentioned and loving family towed my 1995 Vista 258 (OMC 7.4L King Cobra) to a marina on the CT river to have the holding tank pumped out so theboat could be winterized this weekend, and that $20 job was accomplished without problem as thre tank was 99% empty (just got the boat last August and it had been out of the water for t least 2 yrs wrapped). My tale of woe began 32 seconds after they towed the boat down the drive way because both of them forgot to raise the outdrive. The 14.5 X 19 prop is toast. The skeg lost a chunk about the size of a deck of cards, actually it is a large chunk and a smaller chunklett big enough to make a key fob to remind myself to leave highly detailed step-by-step written instructions about towing the boat. My question is, should I attach a stainless steel keg guard repair piece or have a new skeg part welded on? Also, since I need a new prop, should I repace with stainless stell? Size?? Makers Mark or Jameison??

Thanks

Aw man, start with the Jameison, that will help. I would have a new skeg welded on, the skeg guards are a nice temp fix, but not as sturdy in my opinion. As far as props, well for a Vista, its about cruising more than speed, so I would go with a replacement aluminum, costs less for sure.

i second that with the Jameison and the repairs as well!
never have to be worried with the repaired/welded skeg coming off, it will be as new

Thanks, the weld repair is the best choice and I appreciate your advice. The Jameison helped and of course I shared it with both guilty parties (made 'em more guilty hehehehe), but I feel tremendousy lucky to look out my backdoor and see my boat on her trailer dressed in her storm gear and fall leaves. This forum Rocks!
