Any thoughts on this.... when I purchased this boat the prior owner said he would release the tentioner and leave belt folded up and zip-tied to the side with no tention on it all winter.

all my previous boats had multi belts(which I left alone only to recheck the tightness in the spring), not one serp-belt

I can see the logic behind it, serpentine belts "could" develop a flat spot if left for a long period of time at tension. But I believe after starting for the first time in spring, any flat spots would strighten out just like a tire. Maybe just release the tensioner, but I don't see the need to zip tie it out of the way, just leave it loose.

I believe zip tieing it was just too keep it out of the bilge and any water that might freeze.
I just was wondering if anyone else did this practice and if it made sense
