I'm planning on extending the generator fuel pickup on my 318. From what I've gathered, it only extends half way into the fuel tank.

Does anyone know what size fuel line is in the tank? 3/8"? Or how much line I'll need to extend it? I assume it only goes from a connection on the top of the tank to where it stops inside the tank?

Thanks!

You might want to double check and make sure it actually needs it. I thought I was going to need this mod, too but I discovered that my 5E in my 268 will run just fine below half a tank...ran it a couple of times last year on 1/4 tank for a few hours when anchoring near home after a long run. Prior to that I had always shut it off before reaching half tank to keep from running it out of fuel, but got a wild hair and decided I would see if it would run. I don't know if you are the first owner of your boat or not, but if not someone may have already put the longer pickup tube in.

I used to have the same issue but my tech loosed up the check valve to the appropriate gas tank and that allowed the generator to pick up fuel with no problem.

Not a bad idea....I typically tend to over think these things...but your right I may not have this problem. From what research has shown...getting access to that thank is a PITA. I'll let it be for a while and see if its a problem.

Well, pretty sure I found out yesterday that my generator fuel pickup is right at a 1/4 tank.. Has ran great all year, lots of hours, but we let the gas tank get down this past weekend and we were out last night sitting out, grilling, and running the gen to keep the cabin cool, and use the microwave, and were just sitting down to dinner in the nice cool cabin when, without warning really, the genny just stopped and would not run again.. After the water calmed down a bit, I gave it another try, and she tried to run, but just acted, and sounded like she was starving for fuel. Starboard side tank, where the generator draws from was just a tick below a 1/4 tank.. Didn't get back to the marina in time to get some gas, and left last night for home, so we'll have to wait for the weekend to verify.
