Post subject: | Where to find Volvo manuals |
Hi all, Where could I order an official Volvo repair manual? I'm not at all impressed with SELOC manual I ordered. I want a manual that lists part numbers for things like filters, belts etc and what size wrenches, not how to rebuld the whole block and fluff about life jackets we already know from other sources. Hope there is such a thing as I am new to I/O's. Thanks Larry |

I have the full set of Volvo manuals for my boat, but I'd be willing to bet they aren't much better (and maybe not as good) as what you've got. If you want the VP manuals, half the trick is just figuring out which part numbers are the correct ones for the manuals for your boat. I had to call Volvo directly and talk to their tech support to get the numbers for my manuals, and it took *them* 20 minutes to figure it out. Also note, the factory manuals include very few part numbers for engine or drive components. They mostly show procedures for specific repair tasks, and include the specialized VP tool part numbers needed for each repair. There are separate "catalogs" for just the part numbers, which I just received last week for my boat. Getting those was a whole 'nother task. If you happen to have a recent model VP 5.7L engine, though, I'd be happy to post all the VP part numbers for those manuals. |

Hi Mike, I have a 2006 244 Funship w/ 5.7 GXI-G(F) DP. I'm having problems finding a manual as well. I'll take all the part numbers you can offer. Thanks, Ray |

Hey thanks for the Doug Russel Marine link. That's the best one yet for part numbers. |

Ray, I'm assuming that the part numbers for the manuals didn't change between '05 and '06. Actually, when I called VP to get the manual part numbers I recall that the guy said there were some engineering changes on the '06 DuoProp drive, so that manual may be out of date for your boat. He couldn't elaborate on what the changes were (I don't think he knew). Owner's Manual: 7743722 Engine Manual: 7743372 Engine Parts Catalog: 7744410 EFI Manual: 7742218 Sterndrive Manual: 7743008 Sterndrive Parts Catalog: 7746010 |

Mike, Do you have a part number for a 5.0 FL owner's manual, engine manual and stern drive manual? Which would you recommend, all three? Thanks in advance, Larry |

Larry, sorry, I have no info for the 5.0L. Assuming you want factory shop manuals, I'd recommend all 3, plus the EFI manual if your engine is fuel injected (the EFI manual may be the most helpful of all of them for the most common problems). Having said all that, let me repeat that I consider the Volvo shop manuals pretty crummy. They're heavy on proprietary tools and on procedures for problems that they presume to have already been diagnosed, and *very* light on any theory that would assist you in doing the diagnosis. Unfortunately, I've found that to have all the information you might want in the future, you need all of the following: 1. The factory shop manuals 2. A good 3rd party manual such as Seloc 3. Frequent visits to message boards such as this and Boating ABC! ![]() ![]() |

Larry, scratch that. I just discovered that the engine manual listed above also applies to: 5.0 GL A/B/C/D/E 5.0 GXi A/B(F)/C(F)/D(F)/E(F) 5.0 OSi B(F)/C(F)/D(F)/E(F) 5.0 GXi A/B/C/D 5.0 OSi A/B/C/D And the EFI diagnostic manual listed above also applies to: 4.3 GXi A/B/C/D 4.3 OSi A/B/C/D 5.0 GXi A/B/C/D 5.0 OSi A/B/C/D 8.1 Gi B/C/D 8.1 GXi A/B/C (All in addition to pretty much the whole 5.7L line.) Again, these apply to '05 models, I cannot say how many years before/after '05 they are applicable. |

And Ray, I just re-read your post and was reminded that you have a 5.7GXi G(F). These manuals don't go as far in the alphabet as G, they all stop at E. For what these manuals cost I think I'd first place a call to Volvo tech support and verify which manuals you need. |
