Post subject: | 95 freedom issues |
I have a 95 freedom model with a omc cobra 3.0gs. I recently bought this boat and the first time i took it out it started and ran great for about 45 minutes. When we started back to the dock, i gave it full throttle and it just bogged down really bad and would only do about 10 mph. When we got back to dock, i put it in neutral and it died and took a while to get back started. I put new spark plugs in it and put some sea foam in the gas. Took it out yesterday and still having same issue. any ideas?? Thanks |

No it doesn't really rev up. It sounds fairly normal. It just bogs down real bad at full throttle and sounds like it's about to die until you pull back on throttle? |

I had a boat with the 3.0 engine and the coil went bad, acted like that. |

Also can someone tell me what the line is that runs from the carb assembly into the top of the head gasket cover? (i think thats what it is) same cover where you put in your oil. |

Sounds like a fuel starvation prob at higher RPM's. Check your fuel filters. dbuesing wrote: Also can someone tell me what the line is that runs from the carb assembly into the top of the head gasket cover? (i think thats what it is) same cover where you put in your oil. It vents crankcase (lower part of engine) fumes/vapors into carb to be burnt with fuel. |

NiagaraChillin wrote: Sounds like a fuel starvation prob at higher RPM's. Check your fuel filters Yep +1. Replace fuel filter and if it still does it I would suspect a carb float/ needle/clog issue. It probably took so long to fire back up because your float bowl got drained of fuel on your high rpm pass. |

Is there suppose to be a pcv valve in there or just open? |

On a "new to you" boat there's some basics you have to do in order to get a baseline of ownership. Ignore the previous owners claims of "I just did that last week" unless he has receipts of a mechanic shop doing the work. If your eyes didn't see it done, it wasn't done. New impeller/waterpump Tune up (cap/rotor/plugs/wires) Oil change Fuel filter Outdrive oil Since it's 1995.. carb rebuild kit also. Document when you changed them and current hours so you know when to do it next. Once that is all done then move onto the issue at hand. |
