Any updates? FWIW, my prop is an F3.

MK - I was away on a "non-boating" vacation for the last couple of weeks, so not too much of an update so far.
However, prior to vacation, I did change the plugs. It seemed to help a little bit. The old ones were not too fouled - some carbon only, but gaps were good.
I took a cruise with 4 adults and 2 kids, and it seemed to plane a little bit quicker with the new plugs, but still not as fast as I believe it should be (or I could have imagined the faster planing - it was not very significant).
Still needs more investigation....

Well, the season is over and we pulled the boat out yesterday. I finally had a chance to check the prop size. It has F6's on it (2004 248 with 5.0 gxi). I believe that this may be the problem with the slow planing.
I am considering changing props over the winter - any suggestions on the most appropriate size for this.... F5,F4, or even F3?

Yeah, that's a big jump from the F3 relative to the power difference between our motors. I think you make a couple more ponies that I do with my 5.0 Gi. IIRC, John said your motor has direct injection. Maybe you can find someone to let you borrow theirs and try out?

I would guess F4's, possibly F3's, for that package. I'd check the published specs or call FW and find out which set was originally included. FW usually does a pretty good job of spec'ing the right props on their boats - not that some people won't change them for specific needs, but I don't think F6's will meet any need on your boat.

FYI..

I have the same boat w/ the same engine. Just pulled my props to send for reconditioning over the winter. They are F3's...The boat planes just fine w/ a full load.

Just a thought....maybe installing a hydrofoil on the drive will assist in planeing. I'm not sure if that is doable on this boat, but I did it on my old 23 foot cuddy cabin and it worked great. Maybe one of the guys w/ more expertise than me can comment on that......
