How hot should your exhaust manifolds and risers get? I havent used my IR temp gun on them yet(its my next step when I go out again)
Its closed cooling for the engine only with raw water in the exhaust. they are only 2 and a half seasons old and I trailer this boat and flush it after every use.

I was poking around the other day after the engine was running for a while and the risers seemed hot to touch not enough to burn your skin but hot...

It would be nice to have a little database of peoples' temps for people to refer to.

I don't have mine, but I would expect normal ones to be hot to the touch.

I think LouC posted his temps using the IR gun a while back...don't know which thread tho. I'm sure he will be here shortly...

mine could be normal, I would just like to be sure. not having a problem at all but if they are getting hot I want to cure the problem quick.

It's going to vary a lot depending on how you are running it. Ilde 85-110 or so, after coming off plane about 135-140.

It might be overkill to try to assemble a database, but I've thought about it for awhile. Seems like it would need:

Engine model
Primarily fresh or salt (currently)
Engine 1:
Age of R/M
Hours on R/M if known
R/M Brand (OEM or other)
Date temps taken
Port temps
Stbd temps
Engine 2:
Age of R/M
Hours on R/M if known
R/M Brand (OEM or other)
Date temps taken
Port temps
Stbd temps

Yeah. Overkill, and probably too many variables to make it meaningful. But I'll volunteer to put it together if anyone's interested.

The other variable that really varied do to speak is where you take the reading. The top section on the riser on mine is the hottest. And, I've found that tjlhe hottest temp that I can keep my hand on is about 140*, if you can't kept your hand on it, the temp is probably greater than that.
