Something to be aware of; a bit more expensive than a new small block V8 I'm sure !

I've heard of this happening but its more rare than inboards since the height of the powerhead above the water line and the design of the exhaust system usually prevents it from happening. Yep that's about a 7-8 grand repair at US prices, depending on the engine make and model. Late model Yamaha 4 strokes have been having problems with corrosion the upper exhaust system that spreads to the pan under the powerhead and if its not caught soon enough it becomes a major repair.

It looks pretty grim, doesn't it , the snapped conrod and bits broken off the block. The last post in the thread indicates : "Yamaha have been replacing powerheads under warranty for this" and a modified ECU to prevent it, so it sounds like it's not uncommon !

Interesting, much as I want an OB next even they have their problems. My I/O mechanic loves I/Os because of their high maintenance needs, but even he says that the engines of I/Os and inboards tend to last longer than OBs. OB much less work over time though.
