Post subject:  Wrong fuel pump?

Ok so I verified that the engine is a 5.7 GSi, but from everything I can see it appears that the fuel pump assembly is from the lower horsepower 5.7 GS. Is it possible that the previous owner could have replaced the original dual fuel pump assembly with a cheaper one pump assembly? I don't know a whole lot about fuel injected engines (not that I know much more about carbed engines really), but would the boat run under these conditions? If the boat did run, would this cause the boat to underperform?

The GS and GSi motors have a common low pressure pump ( same part number, #3858261) at the filter housing. The GSi has an additional high pressure pump at a fuel reservoir.

The later Gi and GXi engines have the low and high pressure pumps together at the filter housing.

Ok so the GSi motor isn't supposed to have that assembly with the low pressure pump, high pressure pump and fuel filter all in the same spot? Is the high pressure pump on the top engine to the rear? I saw that the hose that came out of the low pressure pump went to the back of the engine and went into what I guess is the high pressure pump? It was pretty hard to see as that part of the engine was way back in the engine compartment, underneath the transom.

You should be able to trace the high pressure line back from the throttle body injection unit to the high pressure pump / reservoir.

the 225 Sundowner I had was fitted with a GSi, I thankfully never had to go looking for the HP pump; access to the rear of the engine was awful on my boat as well !

Thanks Graham, I think this one is gonna be left up to my mechanic at the marina.
