Got my new low pressure fuel pump in, engine sounds fine, but now won't go in reverse. ( I did get tangled up in a chain link fence, last time the boat was working, it was hidden underwater ) boat will engage and go forward. Wondered if it may be the prop hub ? as opposed to a transmission issue. Any thoughts, Its a King Cobra OMC sterndrive, vintage 1994 |

How does the shifter feel when you put it in reverse? Any resistance? Also is the boat out of the water? It might pay to take off the plastic cover on the outdrive and check the linkage/shift cable. You could have a short list of reasons it wont go into reverse and you need to determine is it: a.) in the shifter itself (rare but it does happen) b.) Is it the shift cable c.) Is it the outdrive itself. Its not the prop hub. And where the heck are you boating where there are chain linked fences underwater??! lol |

It sounded like the engine would rev, I could feel the sensation of something engaging, but when I gave it more gas, we didn't move. I swapped out the stainless prop for the aluminum spare and now it goes in reverse ?? go figure. The stainless prop has a Guardian hub kit and the shoulders are definitely smoothed off. Not sure why it would go forward and not backward ?? but at least it works now and I have a couple more guardian hubs on order. Glad I tried, no telling how much it would have cost to take boat out of water and run tests. What a summer, hopefully I'm done with problems and can start boating !! |
