Hi, I have a 99 5.0Gi which runs great on open water but I'm starting to notice that while I REV/FWD in idle speed (docking) the engine want to occasionally shut off. I've changed the plugs/cables/rotor/cap but no luck. I was told that it might be time for some good old sea foam but I keep reading mixed reviews. Anybody have this problem? Is sea foam a safe product? |

It's 100% safe and it works! Just remember to change your filter after the treatment is complete as it will be the recipient of all the crud that's been cleaned out. |

I've witnessed what it can do first hand several times and I am a 100% believer........ Late last year I purchased a used gas powered trailer mover........dang this was so hard to get started, I could pull it 10 -15 times.........I found I had a can of Seafom in my garage with just a couple of ounces left in it.........I poured it in and started the engine on the mover.......let it run for about 5 minutes to distribute...........shut it down and put it away.........about a month later I went to start it and to my amazement..........it started on the very first pull and has started on the first or second pull ever since....... |

+1 on that JohnnyMarlin. I bought a weed eater trimmer years ago and it succumbed to ethanol just after the 1 year warranty. Stay out of this ric. I parked it and bought an electric. Since I moved, I don't have enough cord and had to try the weed eater again. It ran as it did when I parked it over 15 years ago. I Sea Foamed it and it runs better and better each use now. |

I've seen sea foam work first hand. I changed out my car's fuel pump and it was quite nasty looking. Tank covered in varnish (gold colored). Ran sea foam and a few weeks later checked it again (cause it's insanely easy to get at in my car). Looked like new. I'm also constantly sea foaming my boat right now to clean out it's nasty 2003 low hour fuel system. |

That's why it isn't available in Europe, or at least the UK ( commonly known as "Treasure Island" apparently due to the prices boat equipment supppliers can charge here), I found 16 fl oz Seafoam with someone willing to export it for around USD 12 with a USD 48 shipping cost , plus the import duty and tax; around USD 75 at the end of the day ! Is it worth that ? |

Wow Graham. Here it's $10US in any Wal-Mart store and Bob's your uncle. As far as mechanics not recommending it... depending on the mechanic, it could be as sinister as all that, or it could be the normal "everybody's got an opinion" syndrome. I believe in the stuff, but wouldn't use it "just because." Maybe throw a can or two in once per season when everything seems to be working fine, just for maintenance, but I wouldn't go overboard with it. |
