Has anyone tried replacing their nongreasable GKN ujoints with the Rockwell ujoints on a DP-SM 1.95 Volvo Penta outdrive?

They are different in the way they are held in place;

The early ones use external circlips ( "snap rings) in machined grooves on the outside of the bearing housings on the inside of the yokes to retain them.

The later ones use internal circlips that fit into machined grooves on the outside of the yokes to retain them.

There may well be direct replacements, but I've yet to see any identified.

You might consider taking the outdrive to a driveline shop that does a lot of 4x4 work, they probably have seen similar set ups and may be able to help.

Took the joints off and inspected, good. Looking for an aftermarket fix with grease fitting with out replacing the entire shaft. I know I can replace the spider, but still having to take apart next year for inspection and greasing. FYI you can get the entire shaft for 280 on Amazon from a company called GLN. Its part GLM Part Number: 28318.

I don't believe it has grease fittings, but the replacement joints for the Rockwell shaft looks to fit this set up or you can get the sierra shaft for 380 with the grease fittings. Not sure what to do at this moment.

Not sure why the link is not working but I believe what your looking for might be found at Mercstuff.com.

Probably going with the Sierra yoke with grease fittings and be done with it. Anything less makes me have to address it later when needing to grease them. Just found it hard to believe no one created an after market grease able spider for the GKN yoke.
