Post subject:  Vibration on Turn after replaced parts

I am out of options on finding information online, help!!!!

I just replaced my gimbal bearing, drive shaft (u-joints) with the aftermarket sierra shaft. To do this I also replaced the crush sleeve in the horz. gear housing. I now have a vibration on turns that I did not have before. Took the outdrive back off and checked over everything, no problems. Thought I might have been given a bad u-joint or gimbal bearing, but all good. regressed everything, re checked the engine alignment, checked checked and all good.

Anyone ever go from the factory shaft non greasable u joints to the sierra and find this vibration? Im starting to think I have a problem in the Horizontal gear housing, it takes the load on a turn and maybe when I reseated the bearings I screwed it up. did everything to specs with rolling torque.

Thanks for any tips or advise. Im at a dead end.

wondering if its ok to check if this is a dual prop issue by taking one prop off and running on a turn and seeing if the vibration changes. Any harm in doing this?

Had a similar situation on my sx single prop. Everything replaced with new, had an irritating vibration, almost like a grinding sensation when turning, alignment acted like it wouldn't seem to stay put. Ended up being the coupler.

Can you say where you feel the vibs, in the rear structure of the boat, or in the steering wheel itself?
Usually vibs on turns would be loose or sticky u-joints but you checked all that. Could it be steering related, not drivetrain related?
I don't think you can run a DP with one prop off. Any chance of damage to the props, you probably would have felt that before. Thinking back, did you have a problem that made you want to change the shaft to the one with grease-able joints?

I'm hoping you find your vibration. Sounds a lot like mine. Definitely a rotational vibration for me. I pulled the drive and checked u-joints and gimbal bearing last fall. Both were silky smooth. I am going to swap out the prop (probably with a high-five) this spring. 5-blade should produce less vibration than 3-blade. If I notice any difference I will report, but hopefully you will have solved your problem my then.

Had no problem before the work, it was all preventive maintenance work I did. Boat ran great before. Runs great on full turn at all speeds out of the water. Has something to do with the steering or props (if Im lucky) or its that horizontal gear housing I had to break down to change the crush sleeve and reassemble for the new drive shaft. I checked it yesterday and it rotated very smooth with the drive shaft. Hope to put it back in the water today and try again. when in the water under a load on a turn, I can check the engine mounts. Ill try to take some video If I can find the issue.

Boat runs great, Defiantly have a vibration metal to metal taping on full turns around 1800-2500rpm.

After taking the outdrive back off and inspecting everything (all good). Im thinking the Sierra Drive shaft yoke I replaced my GKN shaft with is bigger (seemed bigger) and is rubbing on the cone the yoke slides into (transom Shield). I wish I would have looked at that area and look for some signs of rubbing. Its aluminum shield and should wear fine or continue to rub, but good for summer. Its not the outdrive or anything internal for what I can see.

Only thing that kills this idea is the SX transom shield seems to be the same for both the GKN and Rockwell shaft, I'm guessing. I have a SX-M that came with a GKN shaft. Anyone with a a Rockwell shaft from factory, DP-SM with a SX shield? all other parts are the same. time will tell.
