Well long story short had a seized motor (3. Got the upper gear case separated amd can visually see metal shaving in the case. Can I easily rebuild this or would it be best to find a used stringer?? I'm located in colorado and am new to boating. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ! |

It sounds like you have the OMC Stringer system which predates the Cobra that I have and have done just about all the maintenance on... So I don't know Stringers....but there are those who do.. Go on to the OMC forum on www.iboats.com Post up your question... A member by the name of Boomyal knows a LOT about these drives. Just to be sure, this is the one with the big boot around the transom and does not have trim cylinders like a Merc or Volvo SX right? Probably a 1985 or older boat cause the Cobras came out in 1986. |

Thank you I always have liked forums. Great info and great people. Yes it is a 1985 . It's all behind that ball gear. It's locked. But I will def. Post on that site and hope for the best. I was told that I could possibly just replace bearing. But idk the case has decoloration due to the bearing getting a little to hot. Thanks for the lead. |
