Back to the well of knowledge. When docking and shifting F/R the engine diesels when shifted into reverse. Not a good situation. Has anyone had this experience ? What was the fix ? '90 5.7 Bravo. Thanks for any input !

Are you sure it is actually a "diesel" situation? I know that I've heard boats that aren't shifting properly sound like they are dieseling, but it is actually just not properly shifting into/out of gear. I would check the shifter cable for a possible adjustment first.

Yep, check the shift cable for adjustment/wear and corrosion. If all is good there, then a tune up sounds like the next step.

Also check that you are running premium gas in it... mine would not turn off when running regular - just kept dieseling on!

I didnt know an engine could diesel while it is running. Being that it is a condition which can occur in spark plug gasoline powered engines that keeps running for a short period after being turned off, due to fuel igniting without a spark.

make sure you're tuned up ,my say would be your idle is a little too high,that being said your dieseling will happen more when engine is hot

txjole said much better what I was trying to say. I've never heard of any gasoline engine being capable of "dieseling" while running. If it is running that badly, and the shift is OK, then I'd suspect a tune-up would get it straightened out.
