I have a 298 Vista 2000 model with twin 5.0s with EFI and I started to notice that when I put the hammer down to get on plane, my starboard engine bogs down but does eventually recover. I am going to get my tech to come out this week to check it out but wanted to hear opinions on what the issue could be? I have not changed fuel filters this year but I use real gas. Thanks in advance. |

Im interested to see what your mechanic finds - my 278 Vista with twin 4.3l v6's has done this since I bought it. It doesnt do it every time, but darn near close to 3 out of 4 times. I use 87 octane gas. 100 hours on my spark plugs, cap and rotor. I clean my spark arrestors 2x year and change my fuel filter/water separators every spring. Both of my engines do it when getting on plane. |

anti siphon valve? I had a similar (worse actually) problem on my boat after I had it for a year or so and that's what it turned out to be. |

Same with mine. Change your anti siphon valve. They seem to get gummed up during storage or the spring wears out overtime easy fix and should be good to go. |

I was having similar issues late last year and this year it was worse. Mine never would recover without pulling the trottle back. After testing the fuel pressure, my low pressure fuel pump was shot. replaced and runs better than it has in 5 yrs. On one hand I do like the reliabilty of efi, but it can be a pain to diagnose. UPDATE: I had water in the fuel filters from winter condensation. I usually get the oil and fuel filters changed in the spring but put it off this year because the oil looked good (won't do that again). She still boggs down some but not as much so instead of putting the hammer down to get on plane, I just ease her up. Also, my Kohler generator was overheating due to air in the cooling system. This was a major screw up by Kohler and about 8 years ago my gen tech had to drill a hole in the back side of the radiator to get all the air out. Even a small amount of air will keep the coolant from circulating. So when filling up the radiator with coolant, you have to unscrew the back tap to make sure it pushes the air out. |

My engine was getting lots of hesitation and lack of power. Timing/distributor slipped and it was way below spec. Put things back to normal and it runs great again. |

Mine has always done this if I slam the throttle all the way down (but will catch up), I always ease the throttles when I am getting up on plane. Is that not normal? Should you be able to go from idle to full power and have no hesitation? I'm curious because the other day with a heavily loaded boat, I was only able to hit 42/43 mph and lower than typical WOT rpm (can't recall the exact number). Perhaps the two are related, or maybe it was just the weight of a couple nights on the Toronto Island (4 bikes, fire wood, 4 people, full water, etc). |

True - but not many ski boats weight 12,300 lbs. I figured the weight was the difference, but I'm beginning to suspect you are correct. |
