when i checked the out drive oil today it was under pressure .any thoughts on the cause |

It may have been much colder (air more dense) when you last had it open? This frequently happens to my SX Drive... |

Check it for water, when that happens it can be sucking in water and that eventually pressurizes the gear lube. The drive starts out cool, then you run it the oil heats up and expands a bit and when it cools off if a seal leaks under vaccum it pulls in water. Happened to me a long time ago when I first had it. |

Louc: there was a little milk to the first amount of lube then it was clean. did you have a bad seal on yours deafwish: it was the end of april when i canged the lube |

Yep there were 2 seals that were replaced, one behind the water pump shaft and one for the bearing retainer. |

if there is a bad seal wouldnt the presure bleed off after sitting for a few days, I pulled the boat thursday and didnt check lube untll 7:00 yesterday |

It will reduce because of the temp going down, but there is no vent on an outdrive like an automotive differential, so the pressure will tend to remain. When everything is OK, you can actually hear a bit of vaccum opening it up after using when it sat long enough to cool off. |

It probably sucked in just enough water to pressurize it. Can you rig something up to do a pressure and vaccum test? |
