Just clarified, got to 42 mph(on speedo) at 4300 revs. Had 4 people on board and ski gear. He said it felt like it could have kept going but we ran out of river lol.

Thanks for the responses. Not worried about losing a bit on the top end, as the boat is never used there. Also would love to try it but we were going to order from the US due to the price difference so didn't want to go testing parts from a local supplier and wasting their time.

17P sounds like what I would like, but I am pretty confident Dad wouldn't be keen unless we tried it first.

Hi All, Looking at getting a high five prop for a H180 4.3L Mercurising with 1.81 final drive (non MPI) but need some assistance selecting a pitch. Has the original 3 blade 19P at the moment. Main uses will be wakeboarding and some skiing, rarely do anything other than this. Trying to improve the holeshot a little but mainly looking to make it easier to hold 23mph as this is an issue when cutting/jumping on the wakeboard. Usually load it with 5-7 people and will be added a fat sack to the front for when there is only 5 people. Currently I think WOT was around 4300 RPM. Engine shouldd be 4400-4800? Thanks for any assistance, would be good to get some feedback from others with the same boat/engine combo to comment.

Hi Odessy Welcome to the forum and your first post. The search function is your best friend to research FAQ's, and prop selection is probably the most commonly asked question. A high five prop will do exactly what you want, it certainly worked brilliantly for my previous boats. There are many different opinions as you will find out when doing the search, some suggest replacing same pitch, which is 19P in your case, and I think a 19 will be perfect. It should increase your hole shot heaps more than your current 3 blade, give you better speed holding, but it will still sacrifice 3-5mph off top end speed - which does not seem to be too serious to you. A 17 will give you brilliant hole shot and hold 23mph all day with a bunch of mates and ballast on board, but will cost you even more top end speed and increase fuel. You will also need to watch your revs as a 17 may allow your motor to over rev. Try to loan both from a local boat shop and test them, as many will allow you to do this. Then let us know what you did and what difference it made, so the next guy can search and learn from your experience.

What he said... exactly! You could even step up to a 21P, and that would give you roughly the same top end/RPM as your current set up, with much improved hole-shot.

The boat only does 4200 rpm with just you in it with a 19p? That's odd, you should be around 4800-4900. What prop do you have now (brand) and what's your altitude

17p will give you plenty of bottom end. Expect more fuel consumption!
