Has anyone used this product?
I took a chunk out of my skeg, and although the consensus is that it will not affect performance, everytime I see it (which is often, as the boat is kept on a lift), it reminds me of how stupid I was to allow myself to hit bottom. I'm thinking about putting the stainless steel skeggard on just to make it look better, as well as to protect the skeg in the future. Its also cheaper than weld/repairing the skeg.
Anyone ever use one of these or heard comments about them?

I've never heard anyone say they didn't like them. I thought about putting one on mine before anything happens to it, but hate the idea of drilling holes through a perfectly good skeg. Since yours is already damaged, you don't have that issue .

I installed one on my '96 190 Horizon when my previously repaired skeg broke off fro a second time. The first repair cost $125 and I wasn't about to spend that again. So I spent $99 and installed the stainless SKEG GARD. Installation was really simple, but I took an extra step to prevent water accumulation between the skeg and the gard. I covered the skeg with silicone before slipping on the SKEG GARD. Most of it squeezed out but enough was captured between the two pieces to effectively make it watertight. I wanted to prevent as much corrosion between the two disimilar metals as paossible.

Just my opinion... I'd be concerned that eventually that silicone seal will fail, and then you'll have water trapped in there. I wonder if drilling a small "weep hole" toward the bottom of the Skeg Gard would be worth considering instead.

Apocalypso - So how long ago did you do it and how did it turn out since? How did it look after? Was there any performance issues (ie. hurt or help performance). Would you recommened it?

I also found a similar product called Skegprotector (skegprotector.com) that is essentially the same design, but has a small hole at the bottom for drainage....not sure which one to buy......

I installed a SkegGuard(tm) on my last boat. My skeg wasn't in bad shape but I liked the way the guard looked and it saved me from having to repaint the skeg. Install was easy and it held up fine (even at 70 MPH)

It does look cool, doesn't it. I was just about to pull the trigger and buy one, but just last week a guy at the marina told me about a marine welder he knows that does a great job and has reasonable prices. The guy came on tuesday and repairs the skeg for $85 bucks. I saw it this morning and it came out great. Ill paint it in the spring and it should look fine. However, if I ever bust up the skeg again, I'll put on the Skegguard (the stainless steel will look even better next to the Vovlo grey).

p.s. your boat did 70 mph !?!?! Was that in the water or were you towing it on a trailer with a HEMI

In the water.... 496 Mag EFI/ 375 HP Bravo I with a full tank of fuel, two aboard, 68MPH GPS, one aboard, half a tank or less 70/71 MPH GPS.
