Hi gang I'm looking to upgrade to a new prop and looking for input. I'm currently running the stock aluminum prop which is 14.2 X 23. Rpm is 4400 outdrive ratio is 1.79 and top end is approximately 52 Mph according to GPS in good conditions with just me in the boat . I believe the max rpm should be 4800 rpm for the engine. I'm open to 3 and 4 or even 5 blades. I'm happy with out of the hole performance now and if anything I'm looking for a bit more top as well as get my rpm up a bit at wot. One other note is that when I trim up the outdrive I don't trim very much and the bow starts to porpous. I'm guessing a different cup and or rake on the prop blades may help and allow me to trim up more without porpousing? I normally only have 2 of us in the boat. I'm open to aluminum or stainless but leaning to aluminum. Thanks for the help Kelly |

Try a 14.2 X 21 in a 3 blade. That should give you an additional 200RPM. Stainless will always perform better and have higher cupping in the blades. |

Try a Michigan Wheel Ballistic SS in 14-3/8 x 21p 3 blade. Part# 346034 It is a great performer on our boat. Just don't expect any more speed, 52mph is the fastest your boat will ever go with stock engine and drive you have. But getting it up to recommended WOT RPM will be better for the engine long term. |

I hear ya regarding the top end. 52 Mph on Gps is achieved in the best conditions on a long run with just me and a half a tank of gas Lol. Normally loaded with 2 of us and cooler under average conditions it runs 48-49 on Gps. I'm more interested in getting rpm up a bit. I need to carry a spare prop in any case. Thx |

Raveon- I've run your numbers through the prop-slip calc, and found you have a slip of <10%, which is very good. I ran a few scenarios with different prop pitch and RPM combos. I really didn't find an increase in speed, only increase in RPM, which will also boost hole-shot. Like the others have suggested, a 21P should put you where you need to be, however this will hurt your cruise range/fuel consumption. You haven't specified your use, but the 21P will give you a good combination of hole-shot and same top end you currently have. If you are after water sports, try a 4 blade 22P, or a 5bl 23P (with a narrower diameter). These will give you more bow lift, even more hole shot, better control of speed during water sports, increase top-end RPM, but at slight reduction in your top-end MPH. |
