I am trying to install the stock P/S pump and brackets on my engine. Problem is the water intake port to the exhaust manifold is directly facing forward (behind the PS pump) and I see no way to run a hose to it. Is it possible to cap this port off and run the water directly into the exhaust mankind's drain point instead? I'll try to post some pictures once I figure out how. Thanks!!!

You have a chevy 350 coupled to Alpha 1 drive?

The exhaust manifolds must be able to pass the full flow of the raw water pump at all times. I would not use the drain hole because it would cause too much of a restriction. More water would go out the other manifold, and the restricted one would run too hot.

Most applications have a 90deg fitting for that hose as shown in the picture below. If yours goes straight out, you could change it for a 90deg fitting.

Edit: I see the picture you posted. Does not look like the standard manifold and/or power steering pump location. I have posted a picture of my 1999 Volvo Penta 5.7GS

Thanks! It's a 350 on what I believe is an alpha 1. This boat is the PO's mess project I picked up. I actually did try to mount the pump like that, but the mounting holes didn't match up like they do on the head and the alternator swivel point is supposed to mount on the PS bracket. I'll try drilling some holes in the PS bracket to get it to mount and fab something else up for the alt. Thank you! I'm an old Chevy car guy so boats are a new animal for me.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you :D

Depending on the age/condition of those exhaust manifolds, they might need replacing. Search "exhaust manifolds" for a lot of threads about them. They only last 5-7 years in salt water use, and maybe 12 years in fresh water use.

I wouldn't trust that makeshift hose from the circulating pump to the thermostat housing for too long. Should be a 1 piece molded hose.

Regarding photos: If you highlight your link then press the IMG button, so the link is between {img} and {/img} , then the photo will show up in your post. (except with square brackets, not squiggle brackets)
Size limit = 1024wide x 768 high

Awesome! Thanks for the photo tip!
I'm not really sure why the PO setup the hose like that. My guess is it was something he had lying around. This is the picture I've been using as a reference.

Hi, I think you are missing a bracket between the ps pump and the head.
Take your # from the engine and outdrive and go to a parts source and
print up a picture of the brackets and how they go together.
Hope this helps, John :P
