Pulled the boat today, while hooked up to the muffs flushing the engine, my fuel pump was whining.... UFB! Thinking of just replacing it this off season. Thoughts? Recommendations? Go! |

My starboard side pump was whining in the spring. The pump was 5-6 years old and I did not want any issues during the season so I bit the bullet and replaced the pump. Supposedly the new pumps have an "improved" design and come with a much larger water separating fuel filter. You at least have the off season to decide on replacement or not. My experience with the VP fuel pumps is that the whine is the beginning of the end...... I think a new pump is $600 - $700. I am considering running the engines on a separate tank of non-ethanol fuel during winterization to perhaps eliminate some moisture buildup in the pump during the offseason/winter. Not sure if that will extend the life or not but may try it anyway. |

That may be the case, but I'd also try replacing the anti-siphon valve and the fuel filter first. If there are restrictions on the suction side I bet it can strain the pump to the point of whining. Doesn't cost much either and the anti siphon can be one of those sneaky causes of problems. I like my Quadrajet, why, because there are no electronics and it runs off a simple $100 mechanical fuel pump....that has lasted....26 years....lol so much for 'progress'...... |

Anybody have a part number for an anti-siphon valve? Thanks |

It's pretty much a generic part. You go by the size of the fitting and the fuel line barb size. |

Ran mine on the trailer with a water supply on Monday and it seemed fine. Ran it on Tuesday and it whined, started to bog down and surge, then died. Got it started again and it was worse. Third attempt it would not run. Took it to the shop to troubleshoot and fix because I don't have time. Fuel pumps on Ebay are $700+/-. Dealer says about $900. Ouch. |

Highway robbery, even pumps for todays high tech vehicles don't cost that much... I think marine electric pumps have a harder life because they have to suck the gas up to the engine, vs pushing it through like automotive pumps do. CG regs don't want a push through system in the event that a fuel line ruptures in the bilge. |

If it was just one (you can only buy the high side separate) it wouldn't be as much. Just replaced mine this summer on one engine.A little over $600.00 on E-Bay. I think is was Michigan Motors. |

Michigan Motors is where I just got mine...free ship and around 600 range. OEM and new version......also remove the screen on fuel regulator and replace with the stainless c clamp.....its only 3 dollars and needs to be done. It was a repair notice from Volvo Penta. |

Prior post on screen replacement....its easy by the way. I was researching to find answer to a fuel pressure issue an ran across a service bulletin from Volvo Pentagon in 2011. It says to remove the screen from the fuel regulator and replace with an Eclip part number 21491831. May be old news but was new to me! This pertains to those with EFI prior to 2011 Hope this crazy link works http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 8958,d.b2U |

Where did you buy the c-clip for $3.00? |
