Take a look at this....I use regular automotive style clamps bolted on to my battery terminals. Some good information here....

Your right good info! I have use the same set-up but put the SS washer on between the lug and the nut. The nut is SS anyways, and the washer gives you more contact surface. Both mechanically and eclectically.

Thanks, Lou. One thing the link did not address is the damage that can be caused to the battery terminal by torqueing or over torqueing. I have seen terminals that have been partially broken loose inside the battery. Whenever possible, I hold the cable with one hand while tightening the nut to reduce strain on the terminal inside the battery.

You bring up a good point, these should be snug but not over tightened. This is why I prefer to use automotive style marine quality battery clamps bolted on to my batt cables.
If they start to get corroded they are very easy to replace without re terminating the wires and they can be tightened more without damaging the large posts .
