I am still learning my systems and not sure if what I am seeing is correct...

The single power trim switch on my throttle lever:
- activates both legs simultaneously
- has limited up authority - to what seems about 3 deg up trim only

The two "trailer" trim switches on the front of the power lever quadrant:
- controls each leg independantly
- has full up/down authority

If legs are full up, the power trim button will bring them down, but will not move them up beyond the limited authority range mentioned above.
My manual does not cover this detail and is not this descriptive.
Do I have this right?

for the sake of future readers... got the answer from the local Merc specialist.

The power trim switch on the throttle lever has full down authority, however the up circuit is de-activated above about 5 deg up by the trim limit switch.
The trailer buttons have full authority through the complete up/down range.
Operation of thrust (power on) whilst the leg is above the trim limit range applies force through some of the gymbal structures that are not suppose to carry load, and can potentially lead to damage.

These sorts of statements from specialists bemuse me; the tilt angle is supposedly limited to prevent damage to the universal joints. Yet the steering angle range is far, far greater and the universal joints can't tell the difference really between up/ down and port/ starboard.

I imagine it's the combination of extremes of up/ down and port/ starboard which is the killer.

Don't believe he was talking about the universal joints - they don't take thrust load. The description was more about the force bearing structures that carry the thrust load. Made sense to me.
He did say that low rpm trolling with legs up to a certain extent (perhaps half way) - were most probably within the engineering limits.
I have taken him on as my mechanic - his advice is handy since he owns the marine engineering business, was a merc mechanic for many years and has his own cruiser with twin 6.2.
I'm sure most readers have been doing all this for years with no issues. I'm trading sails for stink - so this is all new to me!
