A friend of mine purchased a 19' doral bowrider. Is has the Volvo 4.3GL with an sx drive . He currently has a 3 blade 23 pitch. He is looking for a better hole shot. Anyone running a 4 blade prop or what are you recommendations?

Without the correct information, any response will be a stab in the dark.

Agreed!

However a 23 pitch on a 4.3GL is pretty tall, dropping down will make an improvement to the hole shot but at a cost. I have a Merc 4.3MPI with a 19P High 5 and the hole shot is better, but the 21P 3 blade I had could not pull the skin of a custard it was so weak. A 23 would be a slug on my boat and I doubt it would reach the right revs at WOT either.

Knowing more info will help

Agree with above, it's a shot in the dark, but 19p sound about right for that engine/boat for all around use, and maybe even down to 17p if hole shot is the main priority.

I recall the mercury website having a decent prop selection service that helped me pick the Hi5 prop for my boat - it make a significant difference in hole shot and I still reach 52-54mph @WOT which is what I had when new with the stock 21p 3 blade. The Hi5 is still 21p.

23 pitch sounds borderline insane for that engine and boat!! I'd pitch down before I got a 4-blade. Remember; 4-blade props sure look cool and will give you better stern lift and hole shot, but you lose top end. Its possible that with a properly pitched 3-blade, you will have great hole shot and great top speed.

Yes, I would have to guess that the seller kept the good prop, and stuck something else on there to sell the boat.
