Post subject: | is my prop good for my boat? |
Hey All, Ok, now that I am getting my boat all cleaned up and ready to go again, I have a question about the prop that is on my boat. I guess since I bought the boat used years ago, I never questioned the prop that was on the boat. It is a 14 1/2 x 19 (3 blade) Ballistic Stainless prop. My boat is a 1990 Four Winns 170 Freedom, that has the OMC 3.0L (4cyl) engine in it. We use it mosly for pleasure, and pulling my kids on ski's, tubes, etc. So my question is, is this prop OK for my boat?? Thanks Dan |

What RPM does the boat get while trimmed @ WOT? |

We cannot determine if a prop is best unless we know max RPM at WOT after proper trim and also your top speed at said RPM |

I think that's the same prop I have on my Freedom 170 OB, but mines aluminum. I've never had it WOT because it goes plenty fast lol. Sounds like it's served you well so far, so why question it now. Drive on ![]() |

If he is turning only 3600 RPM at WOT that means he is extremely over-propped which is not good for your engine. Or the tachometer could be way off. |

Potential catastrophic engine failure from detonation, being that over-propped! ![]() |

well, like I said..it's the prop that came with the boat AND I am trying to remember speed and rpm's from over 3 years ago. I am taking the boat out this next week, and will run her WOT, and trimmed out and see what I am running for both WOT and RPMs and reply back here |

As a reference, I have a 13.25 x 17 Turning Point (3 blades) in my 160 Freedoom, also with a 3.0l GM / Cobra. |
