Just wanted to remind everyone with Volvos, especially the Duoprop outdrives to remove and re-grease your props before they get stuck. I was lazy and didn't remove the starboard set for about 8 months and I had to beat the tar out of it with a dead blow hammer yesterday to get it off to change the gear lube in the drive. I ruined the hammer and will now have to have the set reconditioned and balanced. I damaged the leading edge of the inner prop (the one that seems to like to freeze on the shaft) fortunately not so bad I can't use it on the cruise planned this Thanksgiving weekend but enough to cost a couple hundred now to have it fixed. My laziness is costing me about $250 which I would have much preferred to put to gas and enjoyment... |

Could you not have used a prop puller? |

Good advice. I bought a tub of VP brand prop shaft grease. It's a lifetime-plus supply that cost about $14 if I remember correctly. My dealer just uses VP blue grease. I don't think it matters much what kind you use, I think of it more in terms of how much pollution I'm adding (the VP prop shaft grease seems very inert). It doesn't take much. |

Hmmm, a search of the web showed several results, including one specific for volvo setups. Most appear to be at least $400! But your basic point about remembering the grease the prop shafts remains valuable, and a WHOLE lot less expensive! |
