I put the boat in the water and drove it around the lake for the first time. I was able to get into reverse and to forward several times. I went out for about 20 minutes and lost in gear control. I was stuck in drive and it wouldn't come out. No neutral no reverse. What to check first?

how does your shifter feel? Any change?

Not as tight. As if the shifter button is pushed in to disengage the shifter.

Are there problems with the throttle reengaging when positioned back to neutral.?

My first guess it your shift cable is no longer connected at the shifter or outdrive.

Easiest to check is the outdrive of the boat is on a trailer. Pull the cap off the outdrive any you will see the linkage there.

Second is to pull your lever out and check the connection there.

I checked the outdrive and it is OK. Anyplace where I can find a procedure for the controller removal?

On mine its like 4 screws...and it lifts right up. Did you check the hold down clip on the side of the outdrive? Did you take the cover off the back of outdrive where the cable attaches.

I checked under the shield on the outdrive. I can only see one screw on the shifter.

With the cap off at the drive get someone to move the lever into forward and reverse and see if the cable moves at all...

Not sure what lever you have but like mentioned above there should only be a few screws to remove.
