Fitting 2 x new transom assemblies. So the engines (4.3 MPI) come out tomorrow. What other things should I do whilst the engines are out? Here is my current list:
- fully clean engine bay and remove all stains and marks
- rust convert all engine parts and engine mounts that have surface rust
- look closely at the starter motors
- replace hoses on engine in the hard to reach areas
- pressure check the steering cooler
- fit new transducer

Other good ideas while we have them out?

When were your manifolds/ risers last inspected?
Clean the bilge pump screen?
Replace spark plugs?

Look carefully at the engine oil pans, inspect for rust and treat/paint any found
Check connection between dipstick tube and pan for oil leaks
Check front and rear crankshaft seals for leaks
Check coupler splines for wear
Check Y pipes & gasket between transom mount and pipe for corrosion and leaks.
Check power steering actuator for leaks

Engine and bay inspected. Transom is in great shape with no water ingres or damage. Looks great even after 10 years.
Engines still look in great shape.
Will put in:
- 1 x new starter motor on port side - precautionary, the old one looks very jaded
- replace sump gasket on port - small drip
- 2 x new bearing and shaft kits for water pumps
- change plugs, oils and impellors
- replace 2 x water hoses and a bunch of clamps on the rear side of engine that are not accessible when installed
- 4 x new engine mounts
- clean engine and rust treat any bare surfaces
