Post subject:  My engine alignment was out - Laterally - Handy solution

This was an interesting one, been having grumbles all season from my OMC drive, no matter what I did the alignment never seemed quite right. So end of season I've pulled the drive off & given the whole thing a once over.

Interestingly using an alignment tool fitted in the drive coupling with the bearing slid on the tool not fitted in the drive, you can easily see where the bearing sits offset relative to the aperture & make adjustments to suit. Bear in mind the bearing pulls out really easily (using a slide hammer) so rather than fighting the normal way try this method instead of the standard technique, especially if you are having issues. Refit bearing & align in the normal manner knowing you are 99% in the right place.

And my engine what offset to one side, by about 1/3rd of an inch at the crank nose. Some engine mount adjustment & its all sweet again, alignment tool now slides in & out sweet.

So I thought I'd suggest this technique for all who are having issues
