As usual, at winterization time I specified that my shop use all VP parts & materials. They did, with one exception, the drive lube. They used Shell Spirax S6 AXRME 75W-90. At first I was ready to raise hell with them (and will make a point about it next year in any case just on principle), but after spending some time researching I think I'm fine with their choice. It's GL-5 rated, full synthetic. It looks, feels, and even smells identical to the VP branded product (you know, one whiff of it makes you want to hurl). Who knows, maybe this is finally the answer to who makes VP synthetic drive lube(?).

Only posting because I've never even heard of it, let alone heard of anyone using it.

Unless you have a known drive leak where water can penetrate the gear case, you'll be just fine.
FYI, you can actually fit more EP (extreme pressure/ that sulfur smelling additive) in a mineral oil than a synthetic.

Brand doesn't matter as much as long as it's rated GL-5. Mobile -Castrol- Shell-Amsoil makes the same stuff
